7 Ways to Reduce Bounce Rate of Your Blog

1. Optimize Your Content

First of all, log in to your Google Analytics account and find out the pages that rank high in search results. Check out the most visited landing pages and see if the page contains updated information or not.

The main reason that people leave a site immediately is because the information they are looking for is not provided by the webpage they visit. So if any of your articles are ranking high is search engine results, then you should check them to see if the content in that post is updated with the latest information or not.

So the first step to reduce blog’s bounce rate would be to find out the top landing pages on your site and optimize the content on it to make your visitors stick to your blog for a longer duration.

2. Internal Linking

Internal linking is the one of those things that every blogger should do. If you are writing a post on certain topic, you won’t be writing everything in one post, you might be making a whole series of posts. So whenever you write a post on a topic that you have already written some articles on, then it is a better idea that you link them within your post.

There are many benefits of internal linking and one of those is that it helps in reducing blog’s bounce rate and it is really effective in that. So make it a habit to always interlink your posts.

Download SEO Smart Links to automatically link your posts whenever the specified keywords appear in the posts.

3. Improve Your Blog’s Loading Time

Now tell me, whenever you visit a site and it takes forever to load, what do you do? Of course, hit the close button. Now imagine that the same thing happens with visitors that land on your site?

You should try to decrease your blog’s loading time. There are many ways with which you can do that. So take some time out of your busy schedule and collect some best method to improve loading time of your blog.

4. Install Related Posts Plugin

Install related post plugin on your blog to show related posts below every published article so that your readers can go through more of your content. There are many plugins that can help you out with this. The best ones are YARPP plugin (Yet Another Related Posts Plugin) and LinkWithin plugin.

Download and install any one of these in your blog and start showing related posts below your articles. Make sure that these plugins don’t increase your blog’s loading time.

5. Show Popular Posts

Why not share some of your best articles with new readers? Make the best use of the sidebar on your blog and show your most popular posts in the sidebar.

Showing popular posts at a place where readers will easily see them increases the chances that your readers might take a look at some of your popular posts even if they are not too keen on reading the article where they landed first. So don’t avoid this little thing.

6. Open External Links in New Tabs

The main reason for high bounce rate for a blog is that the external links don’t open in new tabs but they open in the same tab, eventually closing your own site.

So always make it a habit to make all the external links on your blog to open in a new tab. You just have to add a small html code “_blank” in your link to make it possible.

Eg.: <a href=”http://www/tinyblogger.net/” target=”_blank”>TinyBlogger</a>

Or you can just install SEO Smart Links plugin and it will automatically add external tag to all the external links and make it open in new tabs.

7. Provide Proper Navigation

This might be a little thing but helps a lot to reduce bounce rate of your blog. You must provide proper navigation to your readers so that they can go through your blog and find the articles they are looking for easily. Provide proper pagination so that they can go through different pages of your site.

Always have a sitemap or archives page on your blog, show your recent posts and popular posts on your blog so that it helps your readers to find what they are looking for easily.

  1. Great tips! I’ve added don’t use some sites like StumbleUpon that increase your bounce rate…. I didn’t realize about the new tabs of links but I had been doing them right – seemed natural to me. I did not know internal linking also helped with bounce rate, I knew it was good for SEO. Loading time sure makes sense too, no one likes to wait around more than 5 seconds these days. Interesting….

  2. all of these points are important but i think interlinking is the most important and not just interlinking but proper interlinking because if you interlink irrelevent posts then it will increase bounce rate and will have negative effect.

  3. Great post on bounce rate man. I linked to it from my latest post here http://enstinemuki.com/bounce-rate/
